Mario kart (jap. マ リ オ カ ー ト Mario Caːto) - a series of computer games in the genre of racing, developed and published by the Japanese company Nintendo as a spin-off for the series Super mario. The first game in the series, Super mario kart, was released in 1992 on Super Nintendo, which was a commercial success. In total 6 games were released. Mario kart for home consoles, 6 for handhelds and 4 co-developed arcade games with Namco, for a total of 13. The last game in the series, Mario kart 8, was released in 2014 and republished on the Nintendo Switch in April 2017. To date, the games in the series have dispersed, with a circulation of more than 100 million copies worldwide.
The first game in the Mario Kart series is Super Mario Kart, released for the 1992 Super Nintendo entertainment system. The first game was developed by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, who created the original Super Mario Bros. game, as well as many other successful games for Nintendo. Darran Jones from NowGamer suggests that the initial success of Super Mario Kart was the inclusion of characters previously seen in Mario Bros. games, while being a racing type of a new type.
